Notes from the Class of 2002

Peabody award-winning investigative reporter Marshall Zelinger (Jour) recently celebrated his first day on the air on the 9News program Next with Kyle Clark. Prior to that, he spent seven years at Denver7.

Liz Haltiwanger (Jour) has been named the general manager of KKTV 11 News in Colorado Springs. She started at the station in 2003 as the producer and led the news department for 10 years. Liz is a board member of the Colorado Freedom of Information Coalition and is the president of the Colorado Springs Press Association. 

Ian Cohen (Jour) joined PayPal in November 2018 as the head of global content creation and innovation. He previously was the global executive producer and president of content creation and innovation at Weber Shandwick. Ian also merges his background as an Emmy-winning daytime TV producer. He lives near Boston with his wife, Lauren, and three children—who all know the CU fight song!

In August 2018, Robin Johnson (Jour; MJour’05) became director of the University of Idaho’s School of Journalism and Mass Media. Before that, he was an associate professor in Sam Houston State University’s Department of Communication. Robin’s research focuses on gender, technology, labor and digital media. In addition to his teaching and research roles, he serves as the department’s graduate program coordinator and multiplatform journalism track coordinator.

Donald Anderson (PhDComm) lives in Highlands Ranch and is the director of organization and talent development at Oracle. He has written two books: Organization Development: The Process of Leading Organizational Change in 2017 and Organization Design: Creating Strategic & Agile Organizations in 2018. He also edited two volumes of case studies in organization development and change.

Natalia Zea (Jour'02) is the district director of communications for Miami-Dade County Public Schools where she oversees media relations, citizen's information and translation services. Previously, she spent 14 years as a television reporter and anchor, covering everything from politics to crime to hurricanes. In 2019, she received the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce Businesswoman of the Year award for public service. Natalia has a 7-year-old daughter,  6-year-old son and 8-year-old rescue pup.

In 2004, Melissa Stockwell (Comm) became the first woman to lose a limb in the Iraq War when she lost her leg to an IED during a routine patrol in Iraq. After a long and challenging recovery, she went on to win three paratriathlon world championships and a bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Paralympics. Her memoir, The Power of Choice: My Journey from Wounded Warrior to World Champion, was published in 2020, and in 2021, she competed in the Summer Paralympics in Tokyo.

Heather Mundt (Jour) is a freelance writer. She wrote Colorado’s only comprehensive guide to family travel, Colorado Family Outdoor Adventure, which was published in May 2022 by the University of New Mexico Press. The Colorado native and mom of two teen boys lives in Longmont with her husband and two rescue huskies. She writes about family, adventure and outdoor travel.

Mitch Schneider (Jour) and his wife, Tania, welcomed their first child, Ivy Isabella, in mid-July. Schneider is approaching nearly two decades of work in technology software sales. He spent the last four-and-a-half years working for Braze, a customer engagement platform, on the global strategic accounts team, selling to many of the world's largest media and entertainment brands. Braze went public in November 2021.

Heather Fehringer Mundt (MJour) is a freelance writer. She wrote a comprehensive guide to family travel called Colorado Family Outdoor Adventure, which was published in May 2022 by the University of New Mexico Press. The Colorado native and mom of two teen boys lives in Longmont with her husband and two rescue huskies. She writes about family, adventure and outdoor travel.

Ian Cohen (Jour) serves as PayPal’s senior director of global creative strategy and production and head of the brand communications team. He is a four-time Daytime Emmy-nominated television producer, winning twice for Outstanding Daytime Show of the Year for his work on Rachael Ray. He recently became an elected official in his hometown, Wellesley, Massachusetts.
