Transforming Gender Conference 2023
March 18 - 19 in the Koelbel Building, CU Boulder Campus
The TRANSforming Gender Conference (TGC) raises awareness about issues and identities in the trans community. Each year, we bring our community together and offer talks, trainings and forums on a wide variety of topics, including: parent and family Q&A, Intersex 101, queering biology, transgender youth advocacy, medical transition, and education for mental health providers. The conference is free to attend for all students, faculty, staff, and community members.
TGC 2023 will take place live and in-person on Saturday, March 18 and Sunday, March 19 in the Koelbel Business School on the CU Boulder campus.
Keynote Speaker: Raquel Willis
Raquel Willis is a Black transgender activist, award-winning writer, and media strategist dedicated to elevating the dignity of marginalized people, particularly Black transgender people. Throughout her career, Raquel has held impactful positions like Director of Communications for The Ms. Foundation, executive editor of Out magazine, and a national organizer for Transgender Law Center (TLC).
Raquel is a thought leader on gender, race and intersectionality. She’s experienced in online publications, organizing marginalized communities for social change, non-profit media strategy and public speaking while using digital activism as a major tool of resistance and liberation. Sunday Keynote: Bamby Salcedo
Bamby Salcedo is a prominent and celebrated transgender Latina activist, known all over the world for her passionate and productive social, political, and economic influence. As the President and CEO of the TransLatin@ Coalition, Bamby steadily leads this nationally recognized organization that advocates for and addresses the issues of transgender Latinas throughout the United States.
Bamby’s wide-ranging activist work has brought visibility and given a voice to not only the trans community, but to countless others whose efforts focus on critical topics that include immigration, HIV, at-risk youth, LGBTQIA+ issues, incarceration, and more. Determined to affect change at every level, Bamby actively engages and supports many local, national, and international organizations and planning groups.
