Cap & Gown Info

Undergraduate Students

Undergraduate students are required to purchase regalia for the ceremony from the CU Book Store, located in the UMC, during regular business hours or at 7:30 a.m. on the morning of the ceremony.

Regalia is currently available for purchase online at for shipping or in-store pickup.   If you prefer to purchase your regalia in person, you may do so beginning March 19th in the lower level of the bookstore.  The cost to purchase the regalia set, which includes the gown, cap, and degree tassel, is $45.99 for standard sizes and $49.99 for larger sizes (plus tax). Please note, if ordering your regalia online, please be sure to order your degree tassel in addition to your cap and gown (total price is $45.99).  Regalia is non-returnable once it is purchased. This year’s undergraduate regalia, by Balfour, is made from 100 percent recycled plastic. The regalia can be recycled or reused once graduation is over. Balfour is the first company to bring this product to market, demonstrating their deep commitment to environmental sustainability. All the caps and gowns are assembled in the United States.

Master's and Doctoral Students

Master's, doctoral, and law students are required to rent academic regalia for the ceremony. 

Fees for rental of cap, gown, tassel, and hood are $50 for master's and  $60 for doctoral (includes a tam). Orders can be placed online.  Please note that this information is subject to change.

To purchase (instead of renting) custom Fine Quality regalia please contact Nathan Hedrick at Balfour at 785-410-5734.  Fine quality orders need to be submitted at least 5 weeks prior to commencement to avoid incurring additional charges. Only approved regalia may be worn.

Renting regalia:

Rental Distribution and Returns

Master's, doctoral, and law students need to pick up regalia for the ceremony in the Balch Fieldhouse during the following times (please note these are subject to change):

  • Tuesday, May 8:    10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Wednesday, May 9:    10 a.m. - 7 p.m.
  • Thursday, May 10:   7:30 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Please return gowns, hoods, and tams to Balch Fieldhouse by:

  • Friday, May 11:  10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Final returns will be accepted at the UMC room 245

  • Monday, May 14:  10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Recent Graduates
