2017 Department Graduation Ceremony Details

Graduates and their guests are invited to a departmental graduation ceremony May 12 to celebrate their successes. The ceremony is open to all graduates from the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering and the Materials Science Program.

When: Noon – 3 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2017

Graduates and their guests are encouraged to arrive at 11 a.m. for check-in. Light refreshments will be provided at check-in, and a catered reception will follow the ceremony at 1:15 p.m. The department ceremony will follow the campus Commencement Ceremony, which begins at 8:30 a.m. at Folsom Field.

Where: Sustainability, Energy and Environment Complex (SEEC) Lawn, East Campus, 4001 Discovery Drive, Boulder, CO 80303. The ceremony will be held outdoor, under tents, and will be held rain or shine, so dress appropriately for the weather.

RSVP: Students planning to attend the ceremony must RSVP by Saturday, April 15.

Guest info: Graduates are invited to bring guests to the ceremony. The department can initially accommodate seating for up to four guests per graduate and will confirm additional seating for larger parties after the April 15 deadline. There will be standing room available at the venue. Please indicate on the registration form whether any of your guests require accommodations. Graduates not registered by the April 15 deadline will need to contact the department directly at chemeng@colorado.edu for consideration.

Parking and shuttles: Parking at all campus meters and pay stations on campus will be free on May 12. The majority of parking will be available off Regent Drive for the University Commencement at Folsom Field. Parking attendants will direct you to the available lots as you enter campus.

A courtesy shuttle will be available to and from the main ceremony at Folsom Field. Complimentary shuttle bus service will be available from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (in 15-minute intervals) from the public parking areas to Folsom Field before the Commencement and from the stadium back to the parking areas after the ceremony.

Guests attending the department recognition ceremony directly following the university Commencement are encouraged to park in areas near their ceremonies. Visit the Parking & Transportation Services website for additional information, maps and Discovery shuttle route (green line).

Graduate regalia: The university Commencement is an academic ceremony, and all participants must wear traditional CU academic regalia. Graduates also must wear their regalia for the ChBE Graduate Recognition Ceremony. Undergraduate students are required to purchase regalia for the ceremony from the CU Book Store, located in the UMC. Master’s, doctoral and law students are required to rent academic regalia for the ceremony. Visit the Commencement website for more information on obtaining regalia.

Photography: A professional photographer will be present for the ceremony. Pre-register on the Grad Images website by supplying your contact information for a discount on the purchase of graduation photos.

Diplomas: The graduation ceremony is optional and is not an official confirmation of your degree completion. You must apply to graduate through MyCUInfo by April 1 (or as soon as possible) to officially earn your diploma from CU Boulder. Diplomas will be mailed approximately two months after graduation.

Questions: Contact the ChBe Graduation Committee at chemeng@colorado.edu with any questions. Use “graduation” in the subject line.
