Environmental Engineering

Emma is a Global Environmental Engineering PhD student at CU. She came to CU after working as a Community Health and Education Program manager for a NGO in rural Guatemala where she worked with health promoters to run malnutrition prevention, diabetes management, home improvement, and adolescent health programs. In 2016-2017 Emma worked in the CDC's Global Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) group. At the CDC she conducted research on the effectiveness of WASH interventions and outbreak response, and provided technical advising to organizational partners. While earning her BA in Sociology and Community Health from Tufts University, Emma conducted research on chlorine concentrations used for disinfection and hand handwashing during the 2015 Ebola outbreak. She looks forward to building on these experiences with the skills she will learn at CU to research water quality in low-and middle-income countries.
