Before I finally boarded the airplane to O’hare international airport in Chicago, Europe was far more fascinating to the younger me. I recollect that back to 10 years ago, internet was still a remote object to almost everyone at my hometown, a Southwestern city in China. but the books stimulated a child’s expectations to the outside world that let me roar in the imagination world of the “forgien countries”.
Now I come to realize that my architect's dream was forming among the pages of national geographic readings. At that time, the european vintage churches made me hold immense desire of growing up so that I could take flights to that continent, which was a heavenly stunning place to me.
I didn’t have any remote travelling experiences until my upcoming graduation year of middle school. Due to my parents’ continuous quarrelsome and separation, I haven’t travelled out of my province, my vacations were mostly spent with my mom and grandparents at their tiny village.
In two years, I went to Shanghai twice, with my mom for the first time and alone for the second. I was amazed that Shanghai’s advancement and prosperity was just unmatchable in my perspectives: the skyscrapers were lingering in my mind that they are as miraculous as those beloved european gothic classical churches; on the flow of Huangpu river, the cargo ships were highly neat and effective; and lots more such as the transition system that my city hadn’t built, and the convenience with cell phone that directed me to destinations and found me temporary hotels.
However, the domestic trips didn’t let me dream of studying abroad. After I passed the English contest test, I knocked on the door to America. I immediately phoned my dad, asking his opinion. but I knew that I was more anticipating his agreement to support me to be an exchange student to the States. So I can’t thank him more that it’s him who supports all aspects of my finance studying here. He before barely fulfilled my “childish requirements”, but for this time, he agreed with my future study path into the States.
I gazed with such and such memories through my growth at my new maroon diploma. I can’t say extra but appreciate and dedicate myself to exploring. Being a student at CU is my dream, which thus renders my passion for the dream-come-true. From initially dreaming to be an architect creating my own houses, till at the moment having more curiosity into the mystery of the world of science and technology. Because what impressed me along my travels are the intellectual breakthroughs of that era’s people themselves. Science and technology are for the goodness of the whole human society, my limited but in-depth travelling experiences as well as life in America cemented my belief in it.

My living experience with two diverse host families in IL taught me the importance of maintaining a healthy relationship with others. Without their heartwarming favors when I was in trouble, to be involved in a new cultural setting would be more traumatic and bumping. “A person doesn't have enough strength to handle everything in perfection.” I also always remember Mr. Daly, my history teacher, wrote this in his “daly creeds” to motivate us every morning.
To my future roommate and the nextdoor, I can’t wait to see the sparks of our minds on the challenging algebra assignments, those shared whimsical sci-fi fantasy ideas of us, will be discussed and put the time in to make it real. I love reading and you can always ask me a casual talk for the book I am reading and connect it to reality and joke about the thoughts of the book. Your considerate personality means a lot to me, because the good atmosphere of pursuing knowledge is created by everyone’s generosity and kindness with each other in the hall. Let's together make progress on the fields we are all interested in. There are numerous opportunities provided by CU’s all kinds of platforms for us to study and do cool projects, so many interesting and useful classes that we can study together. Like me, I am so into violin and the philosophy of nihilism in the cartoon show of Bojack horseman, we can always share my and your interests and hobbies. These are exciting which would be nothing if I don’t share with you. In the adventure of exploring the unknown, with your company, everything will be worth it. Our collaborative works can strengthen us all, by which we will comprehend what it represents to be an engineer. Collaborativity is always on top of it.

My past experiences definitely encouraged me to find my position as a future contributing person, perhaps an engineer, maybe other occupations, too. As my enthusiasm to help the people in need to make a better living has rooted in me. Facing today's severe challenges that are shared by humankind, which is environmental sustainability. To efficiently take advantage of natural power such as solar batteries, I believe expanding the use of them will benefit the environment of earth remarkably, and also will make global travel more affordable. but the premise is that there is enough trusting reason to put them in use, I want to research these fields and similar ones to reduce the discharge exhaust. And one day the plane fueled with new sources can be massively used everywhere.
CU’s global engineering rap will expose me to more involved and same-minded students in studying, so that I will have less difficulties to find my community that can together do collaborative works and contribute each one’s fancy ideas. The program emphasizes on training global engineers, which I believe will directly help me with a systematic overview and prospects of the issues that engineers can help handle, and many necessary soft skills an engineer should have. In this program, I definitely will have a deeper interaction with other global engineering students. I want to utilize this opportunity well to develop my taking and social skills as well as learn to be a good leader. I clearly know that I was introverted and not so talkative, but it’s my goal to be an engineer who can talk and can lead well. Language capability is also highlighted in the program. I am currently bilingual, and will keep learning French and Japanese, as being capable of speaking their language opens the door to their cultures.
Personally, the contribution I am beyond happy to deliver is any place that is in need of me. I will be engaged in helping others with my strengths. Mobilizing an activity with my classmates requires me to organize and lighten people’s interests, which I enjoy and would like to help with. Music plays a big part in my life, especially when it comes to instrumental performance, anyone who is in the Engineering program likes to play instruments. I will be with them to decorate our community with music. On the other hand, being used to speaking English encouraged me to learn about other cultures through their languages. I persevered myself in self-teaching French through online sources, by which I got to easily find ideal materials for studying and practicing. In the rap, I long to share many of my methods that I discovered of learning a foreign language with others who also are eager to master one.
