"The EU Studies Summer Program in Brussels gives a unique insight into policy-making and implementation within the EU. I do not think any other program, at home or abroad, gives this kind of access to policymakers at the highest levels."
Brussels Summer Study Program (BSSP)
CEUCE is pleased to announce that we received the award to offer this program in the summer of 2021.
This program is a 5-week intensive study on EU policy making, Global Seminar: An Inside Look at the European Union (Brussels, Belgium & Luxembourg City, Luxembourg). This rigorous, for credit course is open to multi-disciplinary undergraduate and graduate students from American universities and community colleges.
Running from July 12 to August 13, the program will consist of two courses plus the development of a policy memo. Course PSCI 4302 European Union Politics and PSCI 4028 Colloquium on EU Institutions for a total of 6 course credit hours.
Unlike many other programs, this program allows for direct interaction with EU policy-makers either in the classroom or at their offices. The daily schedule of two 2-hour sessions provides ample opportunity for engagement with guest speakers and follow-up discussion.
This five-week program features lectures and seminars by leading experts on the EU from both sides of the Atlantic, as well as site visits to major EU institutions and organizations involved in European integration. In addition, the program is supplemented by cultural and social events in and around the city, as well as a field trip to Luxembourg. Brussels' central location allows students to easily explore the area's rich history and culture at their own pace. The city is famous for its excellent dining, and the program will include special group dinners. Field trip costs are covered by program fees.
We will begin accepting applications for BSSP summer of 2021 in the fall of 2020. All applicants will be communicated with directly as we move forward toward the program start date.
