Cafe Adelaide

Our Ted Scripps fellows spent last week in New Orleans, Louisiana, for the 24th annual Society of Environmental Journalists conference. The conference explored themes of risk and resiliency in the state that was battered by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and hit with the BP oil spill in 2010.

In addition to attending workshops and seminars exploring disaster reporting, Gulf Coast restoration, and freelancing, our fellows and staff visited the Atchafalaya Basin, America's largest working swamp, the Bayou Corne sinkhole, and toured offshore drilling sites, the Lower Ninth Ward, Jean LaFitte Bataria Preserve, and the Audubon Zoo. On Thursday, we hosted a reception for CEJ alumni at Cafe Adelaide, attended by former fellows Tony Barboza, James Simms, and Don Hopey.
