Professional Graduate School Admission & Certification Exams

The ACT is taken by individuals applying to colleges and universities. The exam includes subtests in English, mathematics, reading and science. The test is offered through nationally established test dates, and is typically given at area high schools. Check the ACT registration bulletin or the ACT website for details.

Please note that CU does not offer the ACT.

The LSAT is taken by individuals applying to law schools and is offered in a paper-based format at CU Boulder.

The paper-based LSAT is usually offered through national testing dates in September/October, December, February and June.

The MCAT is taken by individuals applying to medical school and is offered in a computer-based format at CU Boulder. Testing Services is an authorized center for delivering the computerized MCAT.

The SAT I (Reasoning) and II (Subject) tests are taken by individuals applying to undergraduate colleges and universities. SAT is administered nationally seven times per year; CU Boulder participates in five of these test administrations.

The SAT is offered in October, November, January, March and June. Please visit the SAT website for specific dates, times and to register.

NOTE: Registration deadline is approximately four weeks prior to each test.

The GMAT is taken by individuals applying to graduate schools in business.

CU Boulder Testing Services no longer offers the GMAT. It is available only at Pearson VUE Professional Centers. For further information and/or to register for the test, visit the GMAT website.

The GRE is taken by individuals applying to graduate schools.

The GRE general test is offered year-round via the computer-based testing arm of Testing Services. For registration and information, visit the GRE website.

The GRE subject tests (for eight academic subjects) are offered only as paper-based tests on preset dates, via online registration.

The GRE subject tests are offered in September, October and April. Please visit the GRE website for specific times, dates and current costs.

The MAT is taken by individuals applying to particular programs in graduate schools.

The MAT is a high-level mental ability test requiring the solution of problems stated as analogies. CU Boulder Testing Services offers only the computerized format, consisting of 120 partial analogies that are to be completed in 60 minutes.

The MAT is offered by individual appointment during our office hours, Monday through Friday between 9 am and 4:30 pm. Please call 303-735-2044 for further information and/or to schedule an appointment. The test fee is $70.

The MPRE is administered by the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) on behalf of the National Conference of Bar Examiners. The purpose of the test is to measure the examinee’s knowledge and understanding of established standards related to a lawyer’s professional conduct. The MPRE consists of 60 multiple-choice questions to be answered in a two-hour time period. The test is in paper-and-pencil (not computerized) format. The exam is administered three times per year at established test centers across the country. NOTE: CU Boulder usually participates in two of these administrations, in March and August. PRAXIS Series tests are taken by college students entering, enrolling in or completing teacher education programs, and by advanced candidates who have received additional training in specific fields.

PLACE Program for Licensing Assessments for Colorado Educators

This Colorado-based test series is equivalent to the PRAXIS series. However, it is not administered by CU Boulder Testing Services. Check the CDE website for further details about educator licensing.

The TOEFL-iBT exam is taken by individuals whose native language is not English and who are applying for admission to colleges and universities in the U.S. Note that TOEFL is used for both undergraduate and graduate admission of international students at CU Boulder.

TOEFL-iBT is administered on fixed dates of the month, mostly Fridays and Saturdays. For information about the dates, fees and locations, visit the TOEFL website.
