McKay Belk formed HWMB Advisors in 2012, as its Managing Director, for selective business and family strategic coaching.
He retired from Belk Inc. after 32 years, of which the last 14, he served as Vice-Chairman, President and CMO, with responsibility for all merchandising, marketing, inventory planning and allocation, visual merchandising, and e-commerce leading a team of approximately 400 associates. Belk is a $4.0B, privately held retailer with over 300 stores.
The Charlotte, N.C. native is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, N.C., where he received his BS and MBA.
Mr. Belk is a member of the board of directors of Belk, Inc. and serves on its’ nominating and governance committee. Additionally he is a director of Coca-Cola Bottling Consolidated Co., the nation’s second largest Coca-Cola bottling company, and serves as a member of its audit, compensation and executive committees. In addition, Mr. Belk serves as a director of Beech Tree Labs, a growing biomedical company focused in the life science arena and serves on the audit committee and is chairman of the compensation committee.
Previously Mr. Belk has served as a director and executive committee member of the North Carolina Chamber of Commerce; is the past chairman of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce and previously a member of the UVA Families board of directors and the Family Enterprise Institute advisory board at UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School. He remains a member on the Board of Visitors at Charlotte Latin School and Board of Trustees of Crossnore School in Crossnore, NC.
Mr. Belk is the son of the late Thomas M. Belk, longtime president of Belk stores. His grandfather, William Henry Belk, founded the company in 1888 in Monroe, N.C.
