On October 19th, 2007, the Koelbel Building was formally dedicated with over 700 Leeds School staff, faculty, alumni and friends present, including:
Klanecky summed up what the $38 million Koelbel Building expansion and renovation means for students “It’s our home….It’s wonderful, wonderful to be home." Colorado real estate industry leader and long-time CU-Boulder supporter Walter A. "Buz" Koelbel Jr., explained that his family chose to help fund the expansion project because “education is the single most important investment we can make in the future of our state….Great schools are good business.”
Former Leeds School Dean Dennis Ahlburg thanked those who made the expansion possible: the students “who voted $17.5 million of their parents money;” CU-Boulder Chancellor Bud Peterson, Provost Phil DiStefano, and CU President Hank Brown (BS '61,JD '69) “who dedicated scarce resources of the university;” Walter (BS'47) and Gene (BS '47) Koelbel and their family including Buz Koelbel and his wife, Sherri for their “love of CU” and “passion for business,” and all the other donors and supporters who made the building possible.
