Consulting Skills for Sustainability Proessionals

This intensive workshop gave students the opportunity to explore a career in sustainability consulting with Kimberly Kosmenko.The workshop covered the consulting process and gave participants insight into critical skills and the challenges a consultant might face, and a frame of reference for understanding not only how they might pursue a career in sustainability consulting, but a better understanding of what a sustainability consultant can do for a business.

Conscious Capitalism Conference 2018

In March of 2018, CESR proudly presented the 8th Annual Conscious Capitalism Conference: Authentic Leadership in Sustainable and Regenerative Enterprises. Walter Robb, former co-CEO of Whole Foods, was our keynote speaker. Throughout the day, students, faculty, entrepreneurs, executives, and community members learned about the key factors of authentic leadership and its correlated benefits.

“The new currency of leadership today is authenticity and vulnerability,” Robb told the audience during his remarks.

Authentic leaders show great self-awareness and an internalized moral compass. They encourage self-development as they engage their teams in collaborative change. Learn more about the conference here.


Conscious Capitalism Conference 2017

CESR presented the theme of Food Security for its 7th annual Conscious Capitalism Conference in April of 2017. The event was headlined by Kimbal Musk, co-founder of The Kitchen, a growing family of businesses with the goal of access to real food for everyone across the country. 

Discussing the physical, social, and economic access that people need for a healthy life, the conference addressed sustainable production and distribution channels that can help maintain sufficient, safe, and nutritious food security for all. Learn more here.


Regional Summit on Refugee Issues

The Center for Education on Social Responsibility (CESR) hosted the Regional Summit on Refugee Issues on October 26, 2016 at the Kittredge Multipurpose room, in response to a call to action by the United Nations Global Compact to UN PRME chapter business schools. The summit called on experts from Colorado state and local government, NGOs, business leaders and universities to consider the impact of the greatest movement of people since World War II and particularly, the increasing number of refugees resettling in Colorado. More information on the summit can be found here


Partners in Business Ethics Conference

The Center for Education on Social Responsibility (CESR) at the Leeds School of Business, in collaboration with the University of Illinois, Pennsylvania State University, and the University of Texas at Austin, hosted the fourth “Partners in Business Ethics Conference” on May 19 and 20, 2015. Partners in Business Ethics brings together Deans and Center/Program Directors from the world’s leading business schools with corporate leaders to promote ethically responsible business. This event breaks new ground for collaboration between business and academic leaders on curriculum development and delivery in academic and workplace settings. ARCS Conference

CESR hosted the eighth annual ARCS Conference (Alliance for Research on Corporate Sustainability) May 18 through 20, 2016 on CU-Boulder's campus. The 2016 ARCS Conference brought together scholars from a variety of disciplinary and methodological perspectives interested in advancing research on corporate sustainability. Strategic Management Society Annual International Conference

CESR hosts the Boulder Extension Workshop with Leeds' assistant professor of management and entrepreneurship is co-organizer and a speaker at the workshop. The Boulder Extension will seek to understand how linkages between strategy, entrepreneurship, and environmental sustainability can be nurtured to extend this scholarly space and each discipline. Leeds School of Business Jeffrey York, assistant professor of management and entrepreneurship at the University of Colorado Boulder, is a co-organizer and will speak at the workshop. Business Ethics Case Competition 2015

Conscious Capitalism Conference 2014

Last year, CESR presented its 5th annual Conscious Capitalism Conference, February 25-28, 2014. Expanded to four days, the event featured a variety of sessions that showcased the Center’s innovative curriculum and highlighted its commitment to shaping a different standard for tomorrow’s business leaders.

Through class visits, expert panels and lectures, student competitions and showcases, attendees explored their own values and networked with like-minded professionals about applying positive values in a business setting.

The Conference also included the one-day Conscious Capitalism Symposium, a CESR flagship event.

Social Responsibility of Business | 2013 Conscious Capitalism Conference

The 4th Annual Conscious Capitalism Conference—Business Reinvented: Transforming Lives took place Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at the beautiful Stadium Club on the CU Boulder campus. The Center for Education on Social Responsibility (CESR) at CU Boulder's Leeds School of Business hosts the conference which gathers business students from universities across our region, as well as attendees from the wider business community and non-profit arena, to learn how talented leaders have used the traditional tools of capitalism to serve social needs. The goal of the conference is to challenge and inspire tomorrow’s business leaders to fuse business fundamentals with service to the greater good.

The conference was part of CESR Stampede: A Week of Driving Values in Business, a high-profile week of events featuring case competitions, classroom visits, speakers, panels and other special events related to CESR.

In partnership with ICOSA Magazine and Colorado State University, the Center for Education on Social Responsibility presented the second annual Conscious Capitalism Conference on Wednesday March 2nd, 2011. The Conscious Capitalism Conference challenged the thinking and stimulated the creativity of great business leaders of tomorrow by exposure to great business leaders who have made values-driven choices today. CESR assembled an influential group of business leaders and entrepreneurs who have created remarkable enterprises. These business people and entrepreneurs spoke from personal passion and experience about how they used the traditional tools of capitalism to serve a social need. All who attended the conference were motivated and inspired by these great leaders.
