CESR’s own Owen Borum and Kevin McMahon have been named two of four finalists for the 2015 Joseph L. Frascona Teaching Excellence Award. The award winner will be announced at the Leeds Recognition Ceremony on May 8, 2015, at the Coors Event Center.
Owen teaches Business Applications of Social Responsibility; Business, Law, Ethics and Social Responsibility; and the First-Year Global Experience course in Vietnam. Kevin teaches the highly-ranked Leadership Challenges: Exercises in Moral Courage course as well as World of Business.
The $10,000 award is made possible by the Falkenberg family, in honor of the late Dr. Joseph L. Frascona, Professor Emeritus, who inspired the donor’s intellectual development and created a lifelong impact on his life. The award is intended to recognize teaching that goes beyond “textbook teaching” and strives to inspire students to engage their minds, particularly to see the world around them.
The Frascona Selection Committee received 100 nomination letters for 36 faculty members at the Leeds School of Business. One requirement for the award is that the recipient be a full-time faculty member who expects to be teaching at Leeds during the following academic year. In addition, a recipient of the award cannot receive it again for three years.
This isn’t the first time CESR instructors have been recognized. Last year, Owen was a finalist and Kevin was a nominee. CESR award winners in the past have included Donna Sockell in 2009, CESR board member Cathleen Burns in 2006, and CESR Faculty Affiliate Kai Larsen in 2005.
Also nominated this year but not eligible for the award due to their part-time status were CESR faculty members Lorna Christoff, Liz Stapp, Don Oest and Katherine Malachuk.
Additional Faculty Nominees
The rest of the eligible nominees this year include: Jay Ballantine, Daniel Brown, Zeyun (Jeff) Chen, Bob Donchez, Alan Jagolinzer, Stefanie Johnson, Randy Johnston, Pete McGraw, Ramiro Montealegre, Susan Morley, Josh Neil, Curtis Sears, Lori Seward and Jay Waddell.
