Review the application process and detailed instructions. We strongly recommend that you review all instructions before starting your application submission.
The online application is completed in two parts: the first sections (A & B) are filled out by the student. You can save progress and return to your application after starting it. Once the student sections are complete and the student has signed the application, the mentor will automatically receive an email from the online system, giving them access to the application. They will then upload their portion of the application (C) and sign it. The application is not complete until both parties have signed.
There are three sections in the application. Please review the provided documents so you can prepare your responses before accessing the application.
Section A – Student Information (filled out online by student)
Please note, this is not the application itself. Applications must be submitted through the online system.
Section B – Student Questions (filled out online by student)
Essay-style response questions. Select the campus on which your lab is located to view the correct set of questions. You can download and save this Word document template, type your responses in it, then upload that file when you complete your application.
Section C – Mentor/Lab Information (filled out online by mentor)
This section will ask mentors to fill out some basic lab and supervisor information, as well as upload a document responding to a number of questions. These questions should be completed by the mentor in collaboration with the prospective BSI Scholar as a separate document. Click the appropriate button below to download a Word document template containing the mentor questions.
Access the BSI Scholars application by clicking on the "Apply Now" button in the sidebar at right.
Select the appropriate button at the top of the form, then fill out your first name, last name, and CU email, and your mentor's name and email. The email addresses you enter determine who receives the form, so please ensure your mentor is an eligible person and the email you enter for them is correct.
Verify the information entered is correct, and click the "Submit" button to proceed to Step 3.
The "Submit" button will take you to a DocuSign validation page, where you will be asked for an access code. You will receive the access code immediately in an automated email from DocuSign at the email address you entered in Step 2. The code allows you to access your DocuSign application, where you will type in information and upload your prepared responses. Save this email, as you'll need the link if you want to save progress and return to your application later.
If you do not complete your application in one sitting, you can save your progress and return later to finish and sign your application. To save, click "Other Actions" at the top right of the page, and select "Finish Later" in the drop down menu. You can use the button "Resume Signing" in the access code email you received to return to your application.
When you have completed your portion of the application, sign it and click "Finish." This will then automatically send your application to the mentor you identified in Step 2. Your mentor will receive an email from DocuSign, and they can follow instructions in that email to access your application. This email may go to a junk or spam folder that they should check if they do not see an email from DocuSign. You will receive an email from DocuSign when your mentor has completed their portion of the application. The application is then considered complete.
BSI Scholars uses DocuSign to collect student applications. DocuSign is an online, secure e-signature platform that can also collect text submissions and attachments. It has been evaluated by CU Boulder to host highly confidential data.
