The Biological Sciences Initiative (BSI) hosted 18 middle and high school teachers on a Saturday in early April for the professional development workshop Cells in 3D! Using Real Cellular Data to Blend Science and Art.
Teachers installed 3D modeling software developed in the CU Boulder Laboratory for 3D Electron Microscopy of Cells, and used the software to model, study and display cell structures in 3D. Professional researchers demonstrated the software working with three different computer-based, cell volume data sets from real research projects.
The day included a tour of microscopy facilities at CU Boulder, as well as a research talk from a postdoctoral fellow in a research lab on campus.
