Christopher Brazell and Andrew Lamb, both 2014 graduates of CU Boulder's Integrative Physiology undergraduate major, contributed research to the article that was published in Brain, Behavior, and Immunity in November 2017. Both students were funded through BSI's BURST (Bioscience Undergraduate Research and Skills Training) program during the 2012-13 academic year, and by the UROP-HHMI (Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program, with funding through the Howard Hughes Medical Institute) program in 2013-14.

Dr. Lowry's lab researches the effects of bacteria on stress responses. This newly published research demonstrates that vaccination with certain bacterial species may help rats recover from PTSD-like symptoms, encouraging results for translational research Dr. Lowry would like to pursue to treat affected humans. Read more about the research, with some comments from Dr. Lowry, here.
