Job Description

The UEP Scholars Conference Intern's primary professional activities entail assisting the Norlin Faculty in planning and coordinating the annual UEP Scholars Conference in the spring semester. SCIs are hired, supervised and evaluated by the Norlin Faculty. The SCI's  primary term of employment is the spring semester, however organizational work begins by mid-Fall.

Job Requirements

  • Meet weekly with Norlin Faculty to plan for the conference
  • Recruit conference participants
  • Help plan and attend participant and volunteer training sessions
  • Conduct professional correspondence (e.g., invite keynote speaker, respond to participant queries, etc.)
  • Create and disseminate conference materials (e.g., the Call for Papers, invitations, programs, etc.)
  • Review and edit submissions
  • Actively participate in the conference in a managerial capacity
  • Take the university’s online discrimination and harassment training upon hire
  • Sign a UEP confidentiality agreement

Job Qualifications

Applicants Must:

  • Be a current Norlin Scholar in good standing
  • Have or be willing to cultivate self-awareness
  • Have or be willing to develop good organizational skills
  • Have or be willing to develop good professional communication skills
  • Have or be willing to develop exceptional collaboration skills
  • Have or be willing to develop and maintain excellent working relationships with the Director of UEP, the Norlin Faculty, UEP staff, UEP peers, and faculty members in their field

Compensation

One Scholars Conference Intern will be selected and will receive a supplementary Norlin Scholarship for the spring semester. In addition to the responsibilities in the job description listed above, the SCIs must fulfill all other Norlin Scholar requirements in order to maintain the scholarship and the position.
