Motion Tracking System
The Black Box Experimental Studio has a state-of-the-art Qualysis motion tracking system. Check out Brad Gallagher's Cowbird for inspiration.
Ambisonic Sound System
The Black Box Experimental Studio contains a custom-made 44 channel sound system (40.4), which enables artists to create immersive soundscapes composed of sounds placed in 3D space and allows researchers to experiment with ambisonics and other algorithms for spatial sound diffusion. Watch this video about Using ATLAS B2's Immersive Audio System to learn how to get started.
Sprung Floor and Grid Support System
The Black Box Experimental Studio is equipped with a sprung floor and suspension grid, which provides give for people to be able to dance and move on it freely. It also sports a grid support system that can be used for everything from hanging sculpture to aerial work, like Anna Pillot's INbalance | IMbalance!
Production Quality Recording Equipment
The B2 has state-of-the-art video and audio recording capabilities, including SL1 a room designed for interview-style or static videos.
Performance Lighting System
The B2 has several advanced lighting systems in all of our studios capable of professional performance lighting. If you wanna see some incredibly lit fashions, check out Slay the Runway organized by Steven Frost.
360 Projected Environment Capabilities
The B2 is capable of projecting on the entire perimeter of the theater! Many of our performances and installations use this to create immersive spaces such as Soulé Déesse's Hermafrodek.
Green Screens
The B2 has two green screen rooms, Studio Lab 1 (SL1) and Studio Lab 2 (SL2). Each of these is equiped with recording equipment that focuses on usability to make it as plug-and-play as possible. SL1 is set up for interviews or still recording which SL2 has more space and could be used for recording larger groups or movement on the green screen.
Dante
All of the technologies in the B2 are connected via Dante networking. This means that data can pass amongst almost all of the technologies listed on this page. Motion tracking data can be fed to the lights, audio can be distorted by Arduinos, and much more! Check out some of our past residencies to be inspired by the possibilities.
