Shane Schwikert

Meet Shane Schwikert, Education Technology Researcher. Shane joined the ASSETT team upon completion of his Ph.D. in Psychology, Neuroscience, and Cognitive Science here at CU Boulder. His doctoral research looked at how human cognition and memory are beginning to adapt in response to increasingly frequent interactions with technology. Previously, he worked as a Learning Data Analyst for our partnering Academic Technology Design Team, where he assisted with numerous projects related to teaching and learning with technology. As a scholar, his most recent research has centered around technology, although he is also interested in how the principles of psychology and cognitive science can be applied to help inform educational design and assessment. As an educator, Shane’s experience spans the fields of psychology, neuroscience, education, and statistics, and he continues to pursue a passion for teaching through the Residential Academic Program at CU Boulder. Ultimately, he is interested in understanding how we can best leverage the benefits that new technologies provide in the classroom, while also minimizing any adverse effects of those same tools.

Outside of the office, you’re likely to find Shane unplugged and enjoying the great outdoors. He takes pride in his erratic list of hobbies, which range from gardening to backcountry skiing to gold panning (as of this writing, he has yet to strike it rich). Don’t hesitate to stop by Shane’s office or reach him by email if you’d like to chat about a new teaching idea, classroom assessment, or any other opportunities to collaborate.
