Nuke expert discusses 'duck and cover' and beyond

The University of Colorado at Boulder's Conference on World Affairs Athenaeum will host a free, public lecture with national security expert Joe Cirincione. His talk, “Duck & Cover: The History and Future of Nuclear Weapons”, will be at 7 p.m. on Feb. 17 in the University Memorial Center room 235.
The event is free and open to the public and will be followed by a brief Q&A with Cirincione.
Cirincione is president of the Ploughshares Fund and author of the recent book "Bomb Scare: The History and Future of Nuclear Weapons." Previously, he served as senior vice president for national security and international policy at the Center for American Progress and as director for nonproliferation at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. He teaches at the Georgetown University Graduate School of Foreign Service and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
Cirincione’s previous books include two editions of "Deadly Arsenals: Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Threats." He is the author of more than 200 articles on defense issues, the producer of two DVDs on proliferation, the former publisher of the comprehensive proliferation web site Proliferation News, and a frequent commentator in the media.
The Athenaeum Lecture Series is a student-run program that brings acclaimed lecturers to campus to interact in public forums and with CU students in classes.
The CWA Athenaeum is an offshoot of the Conference on World Affairs. Past visitors have included Werner Herzog, Gary Hart, Margot Adler, Rick Reilly, Sister Helen Prejean and Clifford Stoll.
