Shane Hua
First-Year Academic Advising Supervisor

Office Location: Woodbury 109, UCB 290

she, her, hers

Shane received her B.A. in Film Studies and Mass Media and her M.S. Ed. In School Counseling after she defended her qualitative thesis exploring racial identity development among Midwestern Asian American college students. After advising business, pre-nursing, IPHY, EBIO, and MCDB students in the last decade, Shane grew an interest in assessment design and data analysis, and was excited to connect with a group of advising and coaching assessment enthusiasts in the AAC. After she transitioned to a first year advising supervisor role, she has found joy in supporting and coaching individual advisors.

Born with parents as biology professors, Shane rebelled by shying away from all sciences and choosing her educational path through the humanities. Yet her latent interest in the sciences has emerged in the form of reading (while not comprehending fully) and presenting goofy research studies through mini TedTalks to her (unfortunate) friends.

Shane’s legal name pronunciation is Hua, Xia (Who-ah, She-ah).
