Welcome! Whatever brings you back to the College of Arts & Sciences at CU Boulder, we are happy to assist however we can. Arts & Sciences Academic Advising and Coaching (A&S AAC) is the best point of contact for current, degree-seeking undergraduate students at CU Boulder who want to pursue a major or minor in the College of Arts & Sciences, so if you are a former student, there may be a more appropriate point of contact for you (at least initially). We have created this page to help guide you!

If your inquiry is not addressed on this page, please feel free to contact asadvising@colorado.edu for further guidance.

Common inquiries for former students who completed their degree

I need a degree verification, an official transcript, or I have questions about my diploma. Where do I go?

That is all handled through the Office of the Registrar.

I want to return to CU Boulder to earn a second bachelor's degree or a graduate degree. Where do I start?

If you are interested in returning to CU Boulder to earn a second bachelor’s degree in the College of Arts & Sciences, you must apply as a readmit. Your best point of contact for questions about the readmission process is the Office of Admissions. See "Second Baccalaureate Degrees" in the University Catalog for clarification on the policies around earning a second degree. You can connect with an A&S Academic Advisor after you have been reactivated.

If you are interested in returning to CU Boulder to earn a graduate degree through a College of Arts & Sciences academic department, you will apply through the CU Boulder Graduate School, so your best points of contact are the Graduate School and the specific academic department (e.g., English, Chemistry, Economics, etc.) offering your desired program.

Common inquiries for former students who did not complete their degree

I left CU Boulder, but I am now ready to return, complete my degree requirements, and graduate. Where do I start?

Your next steps depend on how long you have been away from CU Boulder.

  • If you have been away from CU Boulder for less than a year, you did not formally withdraw, and you were not academically suspended or dismissed, then you should still be an active student and assigned to an Academic Advisor. Your best point of contact is your assigned Academic Advisor. Log into Buff Portal Advising to schedule an appointment with them. If you have been away for less than a year but you were academically suspended or dismissed, then you will need to be reinstated. Click here to see the options and process for reinstatement. Your best point of contact for questions about reinstatement is Arts & Sciences Academic Operations (asoperations@colorado.edu).

  • If you have been away from CU Boulder for more than a year, then you were likely deactivated and will need to apply for readmission. Your best point of contact for questions about readmission is the Office of Admissions. If you have been away for more than a year and you were academically suspended or dismissed, then you will need to request reinstatement in addition to applying for readmission. Click here to see the options and process for reinstatement. Your best point of contact for questions about reinstatement is Arts & Sciences Academic Operations (asoperations@colorado.edu).

  • If you have been away from CU Boulder for many years, then your best initial point of contact is the CU Complete program through the Division of Continuing Education.

All former students who reside in Colorado and want to return to CU Boulder to complete their degree are invited to check their eligibility for the Finish What You Started program.

I believe that I did complete my degree and graduate, but I have since learned/been told otherwise. How can I resolve this?

Such confusion generally happens for one of two possible reasons:

  • One, you completed your degree requirements but never actually applied for graduation. You do not automatically earn your degree upon completion of your degree requirements. You must apply and be certified for graduation. If you are positive that you completed your degree requirements and simply did not apply for graduation, contact asgraduation@colorado.edu to confirm your next steps.
  • Two, you participated in commencement/recognition ceremonies but never actually completed your degree requirements. Participating in graduation ceremonies does not necessarily mean that you earned your degree. If you think that you may not have completed your degree requirements, you can contact asadvising@colorado.edu for clarification.

Other general inquiries

I need information or have questions about my CU Boulder academic record. Who should I contact?

Your best point of contact is Arts & Sciences Academic Operations (asoperations@colorado.edu). You must reach out using your CU Boulder email and provide your CU Boulder student ID number, or be prepared to verify your identity through other means. If your identity cannot be verified, CU Boulder cannot release any specific information to you.

I am looking for the descriptions or syllabi of courses I took in the past. Where can I find them?

You can search the Registrar's Catalog Archive to find old course descriptions.

If you need old course syllabi, we recommend contacting the respective academic department directly to see if they keep an archive. For example, contact the English department if you are looking for the syllabus for an ENGL course.
