Shawn C. Simmons is a first-year MA student. Hailing from Upstate New York, he received his BA in Art History from New York University with a focus on modern and contemporary art. His undergraduate work culminated in an archival research project analyzing AIDS, identity, and the grotesque in the art of David Wojnarowicz. An architecture nerd at heart, he completed a minor in architectural studies with a semester-long research project on German modernism at NYU Berlin; he also previously worked on the editorial staff of The Architect’s Newspaper. Shawn’s main interests lie at the intersection of queer studies, critical theory, and the aesthetics of embodiment. Outside of studying and teaching, he enjoys getting outdoors, visiting museums, and attempting to learn ceramics.
