Visual Resources Center

The VRC provides equipment for creative work, documentation, and classroom use to all current students, staff, and faculty in the Department of Art and Art History. Equipment is free to borrow for short term periods as a common good, and includes DSLR cameras, tripods, light kits, data projectors, laptops, a variety of accessories, and much more.

Reserve equipment in advance to ensure availability (call 303-492-1313 during Equipment Room hours or stop by in person). The checkout period is up to three business days, depending on the item and reservation availability. Equipment may be renewed once if no other reservations exist; renewals are due back three business days from the moment of the renewal. Equipment is unavailable over winter break or during summer sessions when Art and Art History classes are not held, except by special arrangement. Requests for extended checkouts under special circumstances may be made in advance; they are considered on a case by case basis.

VAC 310

  • Fall and spring semesters: M-F, 8:00am – 6:00pm
  • Maymester and summer (when AAH classes are in session): M-F, 9:00am – 12:00pm / 1:00pm – 4:00pm
  • The VRC is closed on school holidays, during fall and spring breaks, and when there are no AAH classes in session. During these times we are often available by advance appointment. Please call or email ahead. Note that illness or other staffing limitations may occasionally cause the VRC to close unexpectedly during regular hours. If this happens, email for assistance.

Students must be enrolled in ARTS or ARTH courses to borrow equipment. Students majoring in Arts Practices or Art History degrees who are not enrolled in ARTS or ARTH courses but need equipment for degree-related projects may request borrowing privileges.

  • The borrower must present his or her Buff OneCard at the time of checkout.
  • Borrowing equipment is free, but late fees are charged hourly for overdue items.
  • Late fees accrue until the item is returned or the maximum fee is reached.
  • Borrowers must return items in good working condition.
  • The borrower is responsible for the security of items and must pay for the replacement of lost or stolen items. In the case of items returned but needing repair, the borrower will be billed for actual repair costs plus shipping charges.
  • Items are not considered returned until all components (including cables, remote controls, etc.) are returned. In the case of items returned with missing components, the borrower will be billed for the overdue fee on the item until all components are returned.
  • Repair, replacement, and late fees are billed to the student borrower, who is notified by email.
  • Failure to pay within 30 days results in a charge on the student’s account with the Bursar’s Office, with an additional 22% surcharge for processing (Bursar’s Office fee).
  • Equipment must be returned by the person who borrowed it, in the event of issues requiring the borrower’s signature.
  • During any given semester, all equipment is due back by the last day of final exams.
