The Pause That Refreshes

In October 1941, the Coca-Cola company and their advertising agency, producers of the Andre Kostelanetz light classics programs over CBS, decided to sponsor a series of popular music broadcasts featuring popular big bands, with programs aimed at th growing number of young people drafted into or volunteering for the armed forces, and Americans working at factories and facilities gearing up for war production. The new series became "Spotlight Bands" and aired over Mutual until May 1942. The series was re-launched by the Blue Network as "The Victory Parade of Spotlight Bands" beginning in September 1942 and continuing until the summer of 1945 when it returned to Mutual.
