Matt graduated from the Leeds School of Business with a degree in Finance in 1986, and the University of Virginia with a juris doctorate degree in 1989. Matt is a partner with Kutak Rock LLP, practicing corporate and merger and acquisition law in Denver, Colorado. Matt is married to Colleen O'Connor and has one son, Max McElhiney, who is attending college at the University of San Francisco.
Matt served 9 years on the Board of Advisors of the University of Colorado Boulder Alumni Association and was Board Chair for two years. Matt received the Alumni Recognition Award from the University of Colorado Alumni Association in 2018, in recognition of his longstanding volunteer service to the University and the Alumni Association.
