Mona Farrag Attwa teaches CU students Arabic in an immersive, interactive classroom environment. During the 2017-2018 academic year, two of Mona’s students decided to study abroad in South America and Europe but wanted to continue their Arabic language learning. Mona had previously participated in the Kubi Innovation Grant Pilot funded by Senior Vice Chancellor and CFO Kelly Fox, and thought Kubis might be a solution. The use of Kubis as remote attendance technology presented both opportunities and challenges for her active-learning language class. What follows are Mona’s reflections on her experience supporting students who wished to study abroad and attend on-campus classes via Kubi.
