Lauren Contreras, a native of Dallas, Texas, received her Bachelor's Degree in Sociology with a minor in Latin American Studies from Southwestern University, a small liberal arts college in Central Texas. After receiving her Bachelor's Degree, she served as an AmeriCorps member with College Forward, a college access and completion non-profit organization that helps first generation college students apply to college and stay in college until they graduate. Through this experience, Lauren became passionate about higher education and helping all students make the most of their college experience. In order to learn more about higher education, Lauren completed a master's degree in Higher Education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Since then Lauren has worked with TRiO Student Support Services at a university in San Antonio, TX, and returned to the non-profit to manage and support AmeriCorps members like herself. Most recently, Lauren worked at the University of Texas at Austin as an academic advisor and internship coordinator for an undergraduate interdisciplinary certificate program. Lauren enjoys developing relationships with students, and helping them make connections between their academics and future goals.
Outside of work, Lauren enjoys finding and discovering new music, going to concerts, watching the latest movies, reading, running, anything competitive from board games to trivia to sports, and discovering new restaurants. Her favorite sport is basketball and she is a huge Dallas Mavericks fan. She also has a dog named, Texas, and a cat, Benson, named after Law & Order SVU Detective Olivia Benson.
