Laurel moved to Colorado from the "Island of Long" in 1991 for a promotion while working in the outdoor industry. After starting out post-High School life at Grinnell College, a very small liberal arts school in Iowa, she studied in London and then decided to take a semester off from college which turned into many semesters. She was closing in on thirty when she decided it was finally time to finish out her undergraduate degree at the University of Colorado Boulder as a non-traditional aged student. Choosing Psychology as her major was a natural fit with her curiosity about human behavior and desire to help others. She got her first taste for academic advising when she worked as an Orientation Peer Advisor the summer before she graduated and loved it. That position led to her being offered a full-time advising position after graduation and the rest is history!
Laurel's main love is being in the outdoors, especially with her furry four-legged side-kick Maya. She has a passion for music and helps out a local non-profit, eTown, at their live radio show tapings. She also enjoys volunteering and doing charity events related to the Boulder Humane Society, Habitat for Humanity, Boulder International Film Festival, MESA and Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Non-Violence, just to name a few.
