Drawn to working with students, Katie has spent 12 years working as an college instructor, advisor, researcher, and in student affairs offices. After earning a B.A. from Beloit College in WI, she worked for 2 years in Student Activities for her alma mater until mountain living called. While completing her M.A. in Religious Studies from CU-Boulder, she worked as a Teaching Assistant, and with CU's Graduate School. Upon deciding to make "college" a career, Katie pursued a Ph.D. in Higher Education and Student Affairs Leadership from the University of Northern Colorado. Professional opportunities to support her experiential education included roles at UNC as a First Year Student Instructor/Advisor, and as a Student Activities Coordinator. Katie's doctoral research took place over 3 years where she co-developed and conducted curriculum assessment for The Leadership Institute with CU-Boulder's Housing and Dining Services. Katie most enjoys undergraduate advising to share her knowledge of CU's student services, and to help students think about how their learning interests can be applied beyond the classroom. Additionally, Katie finds regular enjoyment in spending time with her husband John, son Bryson, and dog Kodiak, tending their community garden, hiking, cross-country skiing, making homebrew, and cooking up the garden goods.
