Jessica A. Helzer joined CU Boulder Advancement as Assistant Dean for Advancement – Colorado Law in January 2018. Jessica brings extensive experience in non-profit management, marketing and communications, and cross-organization collaboration in top-tier research university environments.
After graduating from Colorado State University, Jessica began her career in the micro brewing industry in international marketing and operations, while also working part time as executive director of a private family foundation. She also worked at several Colorado-based internet start-ups before transitioning into progressively responsible roles at the Colorado Software and Internet Association (now the Colorado Technology Association), the Colorado Technology Community Foundation (now KidsTek), and AeA Mountain States Council, lobbying on behalf of Colorado’s high tech industry. She transitioned into advancement as Assistant Dean for the College of Engineering and Applied Science and BioFrontiers Institute at CU Boulder. Her most recent experience was with the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) serving as senior director of development for the division of biology and biological engineering. In this role, she was instrumental in securing one of the largest endowed gifts in Caltech’s history. This $115 million gift created an Institute for Neuroscience and provided the naming gift for the division’s new building, housing the same.
At CU Boulder Advancement, Jessica is responsible for leading the advancement team, in partnership with the law school dean, assistant deans, faculty and others, to build the Colorado Law endowment and provide impactful funding for its top strategic priorities – all while readying the law school for successful participation in our anticipated sesquicentennial campaign. Her team is also responsible for alumni engagement and outreach.
