The TOEFL, IELTS, and Duolingo English Test are three different English language proficiency tests accepted by CU Boulder as proof of English proficiency. CU Boulder does not accept any other tests as proof of English proficiency.

Proof of English proficiency is required for immigration purposes for all international student applicants unless:
Students attending a school where English is the language of instruction are not automatically exempted from the English proficiency requirement. We do not accept Medium of Instruction (MOI) letters as proof of English proficiency. Please note that is NOT enough to meet our requirement even if the program was taught in English; the school at which you studied must be in a country whose primary official language is English.
The Office of Admissions reserves the right to request proof of English proficiency in certain circumstances, even if one or more of the above conditions has been met.
International Conditional Admission
The University of Colorado Boulder offers conditional admission to international students who meet the academic requirements for admission but need to improve their English language skills before starting an academic degree program. Students who receive conditional admission to the University of Colorado Boulder will be allowed to start their degree program after they have met the requirement for English proficiency.
