Project Description

The project involves development web software development of an offline energy auditing algorithm to improve the energy efficiency of existing buildings. The web-based tool should allow multi-users to perform energy audit of their buildings. The student candidate for this project will be introduced and trained to use the offline energy auditing algorithm. The offline algorithm creates a virtual energy model for any building being audited using basic input data from the user as well as monthly utility data. In particular, the virtual energy model is calibrated using machine learning approach, so the energy use predictions of the model match the monthly utility data. The calibrated energy building model is then utilized to determine the cost-effectiveness of any set of energy efficiency measures to reduce energy use and cost of the building. It is expected that the web-based version of the offline algorithm to generate a basic energy audit report using the user input data as well as the simulation analysis results from the calibrated energy model for the audited building.

Special Requirements

In addition to fundamental engineering knowledge, the student candidate should have some programming skills including web application development experience. In particular, the candidate should have some experience with front-end web development including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Prior experience with specific web-based software development is highly desired.
