We have previously shared with you about the Department of Justice inquiry into the University of Colorado Boulder’s compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and our ongoing actions to make our campus services universally accessible. Although the Justice Department has since closed their investigation, our campus continues to be committed to changing CU-Boulder’s culture to make our digital environments more inclusive and accessible for everyone.

Toward these ends, over the past year a committee composed of faculty and staff has worked on creating a campus policy, Accessibility of Information and Communication Technology, and also drafted standards for the accessibility of campus information and communication technology (ICT). The intent of these documents is to create digital accessibility standards and practices for the campus community.

At the same time, the ICT Services and Applications Accessibility Project has been developing accessibility considerations for CU-Boulder’s most commonly used teaching and learning technologies. On the Accessibility Resources page you can find guidelines for Desire2Learn, Google Apps, Microsoft Office 365, and more. Also you will find online videos from lynda.com that demonstrate how to create accessible PDFs and Microsoft Office documents, as well as videos on web accessibility principles and universally designed syllabus resources. This Accessibility Resources page will be continuously updated as new resources are developed.

On the Accessible Technology website, you will also find links to campus accessibility support services designed to assist you with building accessible websites, arranging for accommodations for students, reporting accessibility issues related to technology, and more.

As an educational institution dedicated to educating the next generation of leaders, advancing knowledge to improve lives, and enhancing the culture of our state, nation and world, CU-Boulder is committed to providing appropriate resources to our students, faculty and staff with disabilities.

If you ever have questions about campus IT accessibility issues, or wish to report accessibility issues related to technology, please contact the IT Service Center at help@colorado.edu or call 303-735-4357 (5-HELP from a campus phone).
