The Master of Science in Outdoor Recreation Economy (MORE) is an interdisciplinary, applied master’s degree that prepares professionals to become creative, thoughtful leaders across the outdoor recreation sector. We conceive of the outdoor recreation economy holistically: where innovation is delivered across the industry through leadership and sustainable business operations; through the creation of policies to better govern and promote access to public lands; and through leveraging outdoor amenities to grow local, resilient economies. 

The MORE program is offered entirely online and is composed of three stackable certificates. All students must complete the Introduction to the Outdoor Recreation Economy certificate and two additional certificates from the following options:

Introduction to the Outdoor Recreation Economy Certificate (Required for the MORE Degree)

This certificate provides an introduction to public lands and natural resources policy, challenges and opportunities for community economic development, and leadership in the outdoor recreation industry.

Public Lands and Natural Resources Policy Certificate

This certificate examines critical and emerging issues in natural resources and public lands management across the United States. It explores how stakeholders, such as interest groups, nongovernmental organizations and the general public influence the environmental policy process.

Community Economic Development and the Outdoor Recreation Economy Certificate

This certificate explores community economic development strategies and tactics, and the feasibility of turning to the outdoor recreation economy as a community economic development approach. It explores the sociology of rural communities, economic development theory, financial tools and policies for community economic development, and a series of case studies from communities across the United States. 

Leading a Sustainable Business in the Outdoor Recreation Economy Certificate

This certificate provides the knowledge and tools necessary to better integrate sophisticated leadership, business acumen and sustainability into outdoor recreation industry operations. It is designed to address a growing need within the outdoor recreation economy for a talent pipeline that understands policy, community engagement and sustainability.
