Allan McMurray is Professor of Conducting, Director of Bands and conductor of the Wind Ensemble and Orchestra at the University of Colorado. Professor McMurray came to the university if 1978. Prior to this, he was on the faculty of the University of Michigan. He has also been on the faculties of Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, as well as the Interlochen Arts Academy. He was also an Artist in Residence at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
Professor McMurray holds a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from California State University at Long Beach and graduate degrees in trumpet performance and conducting from the University of Wisconsin. He has done post-graduate study in trumpet and conducting at the the Advanced Institute of the Arts in Montreax, Switzerland. He is President of the College Band Directors National Association, on the Board of Directors for the John Phillip Sousa Foundation, and a member of numerous professional organizations including the American Bandmasters Association. In addition, he is a recipient of the Bohumil Makovsky Award for Outstanding College Band Directors from the national band fraternity, Kappa Kappa Psi.
