The Earthquake Simulator

Objective: To show how buildings of different heights react to being shook at different frequencies, simulating different earthquakes.

Materials needed:

Flip switch to turn on the building shaking earthquake simulator (a light will shine to show that power is on). Turning the knob will increase the frequency of the shaking. The video camera can be used to project the machine on the screen. At lower frequencies the larger building will start to resonate, and at higher frequencies the shorter building will resonate; both buildings will shake at a certain medium frequency. This can be used to illustrate resonance and the potential destructive powers of varying earthquakes in varying mediums.

Illustrated is the earthquake machine shaking its buildings.
