Symbolic Complexity:

Symbols embedded in the landscape of Vijayanagara are related to episodes of the Ramayana involving Rama, Laksmana, and Hanuman in Kishkinda and early pilgrimage traditions of the area involving Pampa, Matanga, and Siva-Virupaksha. The "arrow" that extends from Anjenadri hill, the birth place of Hanuman, continues to Vali Kasta where Vali who was shot by an arrow of Rama, was creamated. It is approximatley in the direction of the rising sun at winter solstice.
