Design Templates
CU-Boulder has developed two design templates that offer several
advantages for web developers:
- Simple, cost-effective integration with the campus web identity
- Incorporation of the required design elements and recommended
best practices
- A choice of 9 colors selected from a
web-safe palette
- Tested compatibility with common browsers
- Compliance with key design features for people with disabilities
Use of these templates is optional. The templates provide an easy
way to incorporate CU-Boulder's web identity. Web publishers can
also follow the standards to create sites with custom
designs.
These templates are available for use by authorized campus web
publishers, or Web Communications can develop sites for clients
using the design templates. However, the templates must be used
as is. The templates may not be modified except to add the site
name, site content, and navigation links to the site, and in choosing
a color for the banner from the palette of web-safe colors specified
for the web identity.
CU-Boulder's Web
Publishing Policy requires compliance with the web identity
standards. Web publishers are required to contact Web
Communications prior to using the templates for a free consultation
and access to template files. Review and approval of the site by
Web Communications prior to launch is also required to ensure that
CU-Boulder's web identity is properly implemented.
Template A
Template A incorporates all the required elements of CU-Boulder's
web identity, including a special version of the CU-Boulder wordmark,
as part of the banner at the top of the page. "University of Colorado
at Boulder" in the navigation bar completes the wordmark. Template
A provides an official look with a strong representation of the
site's affiliation with the University of Colorado at Boulder.

A special version of the navigation bar is used at the top of the
page to emphasize affiliation with the university since the wordmark
appears in the footer. Two photos in the banner allow customization
with images representing the department or the university. To learn
