Required Elements

CU-Boulder's web identity includes a number of required elements that must be included in all official university web sites as they are redesigned. The required elements are incorporated in the Design Templates. The section Custom Designs describes use of the required elements for custom designed sites. For more information, contact Web Communications.

Correct Names: The only approved names for the Boulder campus of the University of Colorado are: University of Colorado at Boulder, CU-Boulder, or, for internal use only following campus box numbers, UCB.

Wordmark: Use of the wordmark shows affiliation with CU-Boulder and is required.

Navigation Bar: The universal navigation bar with a standard set of links shows affiliation with the university and provides access to key features of the CU-Boulder web site. It must appear on every page of the site.

Footer: Use of the standard footer is required on every page of the site, to provide copyright and contact information for the site.

Search Box: For searches linking to the campus search engine or the campus directory search, the standard search box is required.

Page Dimensions: Page dimensions have been set to accommodate typical screen sizes and should be followed as standards.

Accessibility: Web sites are required to meet accessibility standards for people with disabilities by using the templates or following the specifications as detailed under Custom Designs. For more information on accessibility, see Creating Accessible Web Pages.

Seals, Logos, and Marks: The university's names and symbols, such as the wordmark and other marks, seals, and logos, are the property of the university and must be used as shown.

Legal and Policy Issues: Campus web sites must comply with all university policies, rules, and regulations, and local, state, and federal laws. The primary campus policies applying to web sites are provided through the Web Publishing Policy and Use of CU-Boulder's Computing and Network Resources. The University Communications web site links to the University of Colorado at Boulder Graphic Standards and Guidelines.
