Web Developer / Web Designer

Nature of Work:

Position will be part of Web Communications, CU-Boulder's web development office (http://www.colorado.edu/webcom/). As part of the web development team, duties entail web production including HTML development, use of cascading style sheets, preparing graphics, and some design projects. Web Communications develops sites for CU-Boulder colleges, schools, departments, and internally managed sites such as the CU-Boulder's official web site, Prospective Student Center, and News Center.

The person filling this position must be service-oriented and able to excel with a great deal of autonomy in a demanding, fast-paced office setting.

Must be an expert in CSS and HTML and have a high proficiency with developing cross-browser/cross-platform compliant code including standards compliant CSS/div-based development.

This is a six-month temporary position with the potential to become permanent employment. Independent contractors will also be considered.

Skillset:

  • hand code XHTML, CSS and Javascript. I mean really know it. Inside and out. 100%. You don't just know the W3C spec, but have a list of the portions of the spec that bug you. You try odd things in javascript just to see if they're possible.
  • can get around in Flash/ActionScript or are psyched to learn
  • rock solid in Photoshop and/or Fireworks
  • live in the world of Zeldman, aListApart and 37Signals
  • 80% development, 20% design
  • want a challenge. As in, you want to do something that you don't yet know how to do.
  • can work on many different things at once
  • can stay focused and produce without supervision
  • fast learner. Sponge-like. Can apply something you learned 3 minutes ago.
  • willing/able to come into the office at least weekly and work remotely
  • would enjoy working with a zany group of managers, developers, designers, and programmers
  • ability to work in a collaborative environment
  • dream in css/html code and wish life came with an undo button
  • can work on Unix servers running Apache
  • are aware that there are more browsers than just IE and you regularly test sites for them
  • skilled at development on a Macintosh OSX platform

Preferred Qualifications:
Highly desirable skills include experience with DreamWeaver, BBEdit, RSS and Fireworks. Knowledge of XML and XSLT would be a cool bonus. Flash development experience including ActionScript is a plus.
