Evan Thomas

Evan holds a PhD in Aerospace Engineering Sciences from the University of Colorado at Boulder, is a registered Professional Engineer, and has a Masters in Public Health from the Oregon Health and Science University. Evan Thomas is currently an Associate Professor at Portland State University and Director of the SweetLab where cellular and satellite sensor technologies are designed, developed and implemented to improve the collection of, and action on, data in global health programs. He has an extended experience on international sustainable development, surface water treatment and renewable energy for developing communities, remote monitoring systems, microgravity fluid management, spacecraft water recovery, and sustainable life support systems.

Evan Thomas is particularly interested on technology research for monitoring and evaluation of global development programs in Indonesia, Kenya, Rwanda, India, Guatemala, and Haiti. He researches cloud-based processing of in-situ environmental monitoring systems, high efficiency cookstoves, and surface water treatment systems. He is also currently the Chief Operating Officer of DelAgua Health and has been responsible for conceptualizing, designing and operating a public health intervention in Rwanda in partnership with the Government of Rwanda. In addition, Evan was a founding volunteer with Engineers Without Borders-USA in 2002, which led to co-founding Manna Energy Limited in 2007.
