Submissions are reviewed on a first come-first serve basis. The number of submissions we receive at any given time may vary significantly and can affect review time. Also, the quality and completeness of your submission will affect review time. Investigators should always plan and submit well in advance to prevent any delays in your project.
Protocols determined to require exempt or expedited review are generally responded to within 10 business days. The first response you receive from the IRB Coordinator may not be an approval. It will likely be a request to provide further information before an official determination can be made.
Read through our pre-submission guidance documents to help avoid common mistakes that may delay the approval of your protocol.
Submissions that require full board review must be submitted by the appropriate meeting deadline. In many cases, submissions that are received by the deadline may be placed on the agenda but tabled until the next scheduled meeting due to a high volume of submissions. These deadlines only apply to full board review.
