CU Alternative Breaks - Board Member Positions

AB Board Application 08-09

Coordinator (oversees board members—already filled)
Attends all board meetings. Facilitates and organizes all board meetings. Keeps regular communication with all board members and Volunteer Clearing House staff. Maintains the board and delegates tasks to members; helps update applications and facilitate interviews for board members. Attends an Alternative Breaks Citizenship School and encourages a board member to also attend. Remains liaison with Break Away, retains chapter school status and utilizes network of schools. Assists board with trip selections and focus. Remains in contact with host organization; passes responsibility to site leaders. Responsible for arranging weekend volunteer trip(s). Retains annual trips on breaks: fall, winter, and summer breaks. Arranges all transportation and lodging for each site. Ensures sustained growth of program and however else possible. Seeks and establishes ways for AB to partner with other organizations in the CU and Boulder communities for education development. Tracks budget with SOFO and holds bi-weekly meetings with the VCH director. Communicates with all other board members about the specific use of funds.

Secretary – 1 position available

Attends all board meetings. Takes notes at the meetings and e-mails them to persons on the board. Also sets up and maintains the email list-proc and then uses that to send out all necessary emails. Secretary schedules the necessary board meetings as well as participant and site leader meetings second semester. Responsible for all campus and other scheduling such as facilities, events, and the like (Room reservations in the scheduling office or scheduling and preparation for the Volunteer Fairs would be handled by the secretary).

Fundraiser – 2 positions available
Attends all board meetings. Attends all assigned Legislative Council meetings. Plans all fundraising events for AB including Books for Africa book drive. Works with coordinator to find fresh, creative ways to generate money for AB. Fundraiser works with the secretary to plan and schedule fundraising events.

Marketing – 2 positions available
Attends all board meetings. Creates all advertising materials for AB including general promotion, participant and site leader promotion; this generally consists of posters, UMC tabling, Buff Bulletins, chalking and any other creative solutions to the sharing of the AB experience. Works with the secretary to set up informational meetings (optional) and delegate who will present at them as well as provide them materials for their presentation (brochures, flyers, Power Point, etc.).

Site Leader Coordinator – 2 positions available
Attends all board meetings. Organizes all events pertaining to site leaders. Contacts Risk Management for any policy changes that would pertain to AB. Helps marketing position with publicity for recruiting site leaders as well as organizing informational meetings. Responsible for organizing Site Leader Retreat (weekend), interviews each applicant and updates site leader application. Retreat organization includes finding a location, planning and scheduling speakers and events (ropes course, group time, etc.) securing funds, organizing supplies, arranging transportation (if needed), and any other logistical planning. Keeps contact with site leaders before and after trip; holds monthly meetings with them to keeps site leaders informed.

Participant Coordinator – 2 positions available
Attends all board meetings. Organizes all events pertaining to participants. Helps marketing position with publicity for recruiting participants as well as organizing informational meetings. Responsible for updating participant application. Collects all applications, coordinates group interviews with participants and board members. Informs all participants of fee deadlines and works with coordinator and SOFO to track fees that have been turned in. Plans reorientation potlucks and/or bbqs for when trips return. Contacts Risk Management for any policy changes that would pertain to AB.

Community Liasion – 1 position available
Attends all board meetings. Acts as point of contact for CU, local and national press. Composes press releases on upcoming trips, events, etc. Creates and establishes relationships with other organizations or institutions within the CU and Boulder communities for pre/post service activities. Creates avenues for AB to grow as a community in and of itself.
