CU GOLD (Gaining Opportuntities through Leadership Development) Fall 2008

Core Leadership Program (CLP)

Program Overview:

The Core Leadership Program (CLP) is an intensive, semester-long leadership program in which students can come together to develop and enrich their leadership skills. Through exploring topics such as communication, conflict resolution, ethics and values, and social justice issues, students discover and develop their personal leadership style. Enrolled students will attend a weekend retreat, participate in a community service project, as well as attend weekly workshops, learning about different aspects of leadership. The Core Leadership Program is free and open to all CU students. Space is limited to the first 40 students each semester.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will gain greater self-awareness of their individual abilities and values as they relate to leadership.

  • Students will challenge their assumptions of what it means to be a “good leader” in the traditional sense.

  • Students will experience leadership through service and explore their relationship to the both the campus and outside community.

  • Students will understand the responsibilities of being a leader—the rewarding and the difficult.

  • Students will improve their understanding of how diversity, multiculturalism, and social justice relate to their role as leaders.

  • Students will develop a leadership vision for themselves that will inspire them to action.
