Scholarships, Fellowships, & Awards

The scholarships listed below represent some of the most competitive and prestigious awards available to students. There are, of course, many other scholarships, fellowships and awards, but the Top Scholarship Office focuses its attention on these awards.

For general scholarship information, please contactt the Office of Financial Aid, Scholarship Services, Schlp@colorado.edu.

In deciding whether these opportunities are relevant to your career goals, consider the following information carefully:

  • Does this scholarship cover the field of study in which you are interested?
  • Is the scholarship tenable in a location appealing to you? Some scholarships are portable, some are location-specific.
  • Is the scholarship compatible with your time frame for school?
  • Are you too old or young to apply?
  • Can you meet the basic requirements listed? Foundations will not “bend the rules” for a candidate.
  • Do you have adequate extracurricular experience? Some Foundations only look at your transcript – others will look for outside work or research in your field and/or evidence of leadership, community service or other extracurricular activities.
  • Will this scholarship move you closer to your ultimate career goals? As interesting as some of the scholarships might be, if they are a diversion or distraction from your career plans, the scholarship may not be a good choice for you.
  • What are your degree plans? Some scholarships will fund you through your degree, some will only fund you for a limited time. In this case you should have a plan for how to finish your degree.

After browsing through the list of scholarships, do some additional research. Visit the websites of the scholarships and read them carefully. The Foundations are eager to share necessary information to potential applicants. Measure your qualifications against those listed. Talk to your professors and advisors about these opportunities. Visit the Top Scholarship Office and go to the informational meetings held throughout the year. Remember that CU deadlines for these scholarships are well in advance of the Foundation deadlines. Don’t delay!
