Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program | Be Curious. Be Collaborative. Be Creative.
Tenure-track faculty and full-time instructors at CU Boulder can support undergraduates in research, scholarly and creative activities through the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP). Recent changes have simplified the process by which faculty can apply for various grants.

There are three UROP faculty-generated grant types: Team Grants for projects involving two or more undergrads, Department Grants for academic department development and Publication Grants for undergraduate research publications. Information about these awards can be found below with more details and guidelines on the UROP website.

UROP Faculty Grants are disbursed in one payment to the speedtype indicated in the application. Applicants must:

  1. itemize and total their budgetary request
  2. provide a speedtype for the fund transfer
  3. identify the account manager responsible for the speedtype indicated
  4. note other potential funding sources, including additional information as needed.
Team Grants provide up to $3,000 for faculty-led research, scholarly or creative projects involving two or more undergraduates.

Department Grants provide up to $4,000 for programming to cultivate departmental cultures of student inquiry and greater participation in UROP. Programs are also eligible. Applications require the approval of the applicant's department chair or program head. Department Development Grants are not available for the summer term.

Publications Grants provide up to $3,000 for institutional publications serving as venues for undergraduate research, scholarly and creative projects. Publication Grants are not available for the summer term.

Submit the UROP Faculty Grant Application by Feb. 17, 2017 for projects planned during Summer 2017 or Academic-Year 2017-18 (fall/spring).
