Happy Holidays, Buffaloes! Not a lot going on in the finals-ridden campus this week. Make sure to keep it quiet out of respect for your fellow Buffs still studying for their exams. That said, the city of Boulder is hosting many student-friendly events, so get up and at ‘em! I am Sarah Ellsworth: IPHY major, Boulder native, and event connoisseur, writing to you from the comfort of beautiful CU-Boulder on all of your weekly opportunities for community involvement, educational whatnot and supreme fun. Tuesday, Dec. 15

Study hard. Finals week is the homestretch, the victory lap or the saving grace or the crushing defeat. Don’t let it be the latter! Go to Norlin and get your study on! The library building will be open 7:30 a.m. to 2 a.m. during finals week, with the exception of the Laughing Goat and Norlin Commons, which will be open 24/7. Remember to keep it quiet and share your table with stragglers. Library hours.

Wednesday, Dec. 16

Free yoga on the Hill. Hit Core Power Yoga on The Hill (1129 13th) from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. for a free yoga class taught by one of their certified yoga instructors. The class is aimed at relieving stress, curing finals week, and hot tea and lavender towels will be provided after the class. Free yoga on the Hill.

Thursday, Dec. 17

Haystack Mountain cheese making class and tour. If you’ve ever wondered how cheese is made, or wanted to try doing it for yourself, then be sure to check out Boulder’s famous Haystack Mountain Creamery (505 Weaver Park Rd., Longmont) tour and demonstration. You’ll learn all the basics of soft cheese making and get to sample Haystack’s superior product. Tickets are $39. Haystack Mountain cheese making class and tour.

Friday, Dec. 18

Supervolcanoes at Fiske. Volcanoes are an incredible source of both supreme beauty and unbelievable devastation. If you’re interested in learning more about these great natural disasters, as well as some of the most massive eruptions in history, then stop by Fiske Planetarium at 7 p.m. for a showing of Supervolcanoes. Saturday, Dec. 19

The CU-Boulder winter commencement ceremony. The main university commencement ceremony kicks off at 9:30 a.m. in the Coors Events Center. Come check out the final winter commencement ceremony. Winter commencement ceremony.

The Ugly Sweater Run - 5K. Be sure to register now for Denver’s most festive 5K of the year! The Ugly Sweater Run races through the streets around Dick’s Sporting Goods Park starting at 11 a.m. and is open to everyone, regardless of how fast you run (or walk, that’s cool too). However, you must wear your ugliest holiday sweater (them’s the rules). Ugly Sweater Run.

Sunday, Dec. 20

Denver Zoo Lights. Gab a bus down to the Denver Zoo (2300 Steele St.) to stroll among the beautiful seasonal light displays and admire the majestic zoo animals. Bring some hot chocolate and a blanket or two and be sure to check out the Lantern Festival in the elephant section. Tickets are $13 and the event opens at 5:30 p.m. Denver Zoo Lights.

Go see Star Wars. The much-awaited J.J. Abrams remake/sequel of one of the most beloved and geeked-out over series of all time is finally in theaters! If you have a costume, put it on, and get ye’ to the movie theater for this epic motion picture!

Tuesday, Dec. 22

Drumming up the sun at Red Rocks. Gather with your fellow morning people at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison to welcome the sun after the longest night of the year with a symphony of drums. Bring your drums, rattles, pots and pans, and warm clothes! Sunrise is at 7:18 a.m. so show up early to get settled in and make some friends. Drum up the sun at Red Rocks.
