Giving students the tools to effectively communicate about sex is the drive behind the student-run "Let's Talk Sex" campaign.

Coordinated by CU-Boulder students Dominique Guillen (junior, psychology and women and gender studies) and Beth Bernard (sophomore, integrative physiology and journalism), the campaign is run through Community Health, a division of the Wardenburg Health Center. Guillen and Bernard also are working with the statewide organization beforeplay.org on the campaign, which kicks off with its first event on Oct. 30 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. on the UMC stage across from the Alfred Packer Grill.

"During our first 'Let's Talk Sex' event, we will be exploring sexual communication, which includes getting people to talk about sex, taking some pictures and just trying to get people to engage in this conversation," said Guillen.

Later on Oct. 30 from 2:30-5:30 p.m., they will also offer their "With Pleasure" presentation in the campus SORCE office in the University Memorial Center room 227. This presentation includes basic information on sexual health, contraception and STIs.

"Our goal with this campaign and these presentations is to get people to talk about sex, and reduce the stigma so when they want to get birth control or talk to their doctor or partner about sex, they will be more comfortable," said Bernard.

Upcoming events include:

  • "Let's Talk Sex," Nov. 13, 7-9 p.m., in the Hallet Hall lobby
  • "Let's Talk Sex," Dec. 3, 5-8 p.m., in the Darley Commons lobby
