College In Colorado news release

DENVER - The University of Colorado has teamed up with Denver-based Crowley Foundation to bring 38 high school students from seven Metro Denver high schools to the CU-Boulder campus on April 6 as part of College Friday.

Launched by College In Colorado in 2006, College Friday is an annual statewide awareness day designed to support Colorado students on their path to college. On College Friday, supported by Governor John Hickenlooper, all Coloradans are encouraged to wear apparel from their alma mater or favorite college to work or school to help raise awareness about the importance of higher education.

“One of our main goals at the Crowley Foundation is to promote education among youth, with the intention of introducing low income, minority and first-generation students to college life, and the opportunities a college degree can provide,” said Ken Crowley, founder of The Crowley Foundation. “With the support of University of Colorado and College In Colorado, we are changing the lives of these students, who may not have thought college was even an option.”

Students will be on campus from 8:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. to tour campus and experience firsthand what it’s like to be a CU student. The day will include time with College In Colorado motivational speaker and CU-Boulder alumnus, Lance Carl, who will talk to the students about overcoming adversity and pursuing post-secondary education. The students will also have the opportunity to ask CU-Boulder students questions about their own college path and experiences.

“We are so proud to partner with College In Colorado to bring a wonderful group of students to campus on College Friday to talk about their future in higher education,” said Kevin MacClennan, CU-Boulder director of admissions.
